Dating violence deaf community
Our mission at Deaf Hope is to end domestic and sexual violence in Deaf communities through empowerment, education and services.
Deaf Hope provides comprehensive advocacy to Deaf survivors and their children.
Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner.
Deaf Hope works to develop innovative approaches to facilitate change within the Deaf community, to break down the cultural and social systems that perpetuate violence against women, and to empower individuals to work toward a life free of violence.
Since 2006, Deaf Hope has partnered with the Alameda County Family Justice Center in Oakland, supporting survivors through a “one stop” model with 30 onsite agencies providing coordinated services.
Deaf SAFE provides workshops for community members, law enforcement, hospitals and medical centers and nonprofit organizations at no charge. The opinions, findings, conclusions, and recommendations expressed in this program are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women.
This project was supported by 2014-UD-AX-0005 awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women, U.
We believe that the values of collective leadership and community accountability must be reflected in our personal lives not simply on the job.
We must be willing to be called out for mistakes and be proactive in addressing them.
